Beyond The Duh Factor

Talk about being late for the train to Clueville:

Former GOP Congressmen Accuse Republicans Of Putting Party Above Constitution

Sam Stein:
Two former Republican members of Congress have accused their GOP colleagues of putting party politics over the Constitution during the Bush years, arguing that they failed dramatically to check the White House's use of executive powers.

Former Reps. Mickey Edwards (R-Okla.) and Chris Shays (R-Conn.) made the argument that if the Republican-controlled Congress had exhibited greater oversight during former President George W. Bush's time in office, they could have prevented some of the most calamitous results of that administration and even saved thousands of lives. [snip]

Shays said the Bush White House abused its powers in a way that resulted in many of the domestic and international problems that have unfolded recently.

"This past Republican Congress hurt this administration by not having some hearings," said the Connecticut Republican. "Had we had hearings it would have nipped those problems in the bud."

Edwards was even more critical. He mocked members of Congress when it came to flexing their constitutional oversight authority. In particular, he lamented the House Republican lawmakers' unified opposition to holding hearings to investigate the firing of U.S. Attorneys by the Bush White House.

"One of the most shocking things was when the House voted to hold [Counsel Harriet] Miers and [Chief of Staff Josh] Bolten in contempt because they refused to obey a congressional subpoena," said Edwards. "Every single member of my party, except for three, walked out. Members of Congress walked out of the chamber rather than stand up as members of Congress so that congressional subpoena (would) be obeyed. Party trumped Constitution."

It not like others haven't been complaining about some of that very same stuff, for years. Sheesh. Thanks for catching up, way after the fact; too bad you couldn't have spoken out much earlier.

"...former Republican members of Congress..."
I'm not surprised any more when I see the above.
It's safe now.
Will file this away under "JUSTIFYING PREVIOUS COWARDICE".

Oh, so we're suppose to believe that they've been hog-tied in some chicken coup the for last eight years? Now they wanna point fingers?

Come on.---- putting party politics before the Constitution IS how they win elections, and they just noticed that small fact.

No they win elections because of

1. Fascist Media eliminating true candidates
2. Electronic vote tabulation devices(invisible cracking)
3. Broken Chain of Custody of Paper Ballots
4. Voter Caging

sorry as I went off to get a cup of coffee it hit me there's more. ( I would have kept it in one single post)

5. Timing as a weapon - e.g. litigation afterwards vs. fastrack on a jet and swearing in
6. Illegal wiretapping - Blackmail, Bribes, Threats, Target Individuals, and assinations.
7. The whole procedure we have for voting is flawed. When the Supreme Court (Appointed positions) is deciding the people's will.
8. Oath Of Office - Not fully defined what to do when someone breaks the oath. Can you use deadly force? Nobody will clarify.

Also, the whole (D) vs. (R) continous noise machine needs to be put to rest. It corruption and actions. Not party affiliations this is a sideshow which allows our public airwaves to be wasted for nonsense vs. asking real questions, not the softball junk with canned responses.

Chris Shays was one of the very Congressmen he now condemns; as a chairman of an oversight committee, he refused to hold oversight hearings and always voted against holding the Bush administration accountable; he is a coward, a liar, and a hypocrite!

We need more former Republican members of Congress! IMO

I posted this below, but it may be worth repeating here:

Jul 17, 2009: US House launches investigation into CIA program

The House Intelligence Committee said on Friday it was launching a formal investigation into the concealment of a secret CIA program from Congress that one senator said was withheld on orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Immediately after the Democrats announced the investigation, Republicans cried foul and called it a partisan effort to protect the Democratic leader, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Mark Benjamin at Salon.com asks,
Who is the CIA allowed to kill?
by: Peter of Lone Tree (contact) - 18 Jul '09 - 07:39
Foiled Goil answers,
Anybody they want to kill.
So what about those U.S. policies that expressly forbid assassination? It may generate flashbacks to the tortured debate over torture, but it all comes down to semantics. Assassination is OK -- as long as you don't use the word "assassination."
