Police Taser a Student in the Library

by: Chet Scoville

This is unbelievable (and not for the faint of heart):

The Daily Bruin reports:
UCPD officers shot a student several times with a Taser inside the Powell Library CLICC computer lab late Tuesday night before taking him into custody....

At around 11:30 p.m., CSOs asked a male student using a computer in the back of the room to leave when he was unable to produce a BruinCard during a random check. The student did not exit the building immediately....

The CSOs left, returning minutes later, and police officers arrived to escort the student out. By this time the student had begun to walk toward the door with his backpack when an officer approached him and grabbed his arm, at which point the student told the officer to let him go. A second officer then approached the student as well.

The student began to yell “get off me,” repeating himself several times.

It was at this point that the officers shot the student with a Taser for the first time, causing him to fall to the floor and cry out in pain. The student also told the officers he had a medical condition.

UCPD officers confirmed that the man involved in the incident was a student, but did not give a name or any additional information about his identity.

As the student was screaming, UCPD officers repeatedly told him to stand up and said "stop fighting us." The student did not stand up as the officers requested and they shot him with the Taser at least once more.

"It was the most disgusting and vile act I had ever seen in my life," said David Remesnitsky, a 2006 UCLA alumnus who witnessed the incident.

As the student and the officers were struggling, bystanders repeatedly asked the police officers to stop, and at one point officers told the gathered crowd to stand back and threatened to use a Taser on anyone who got too close.

Laila Gordy, a fourth-year economics student who was present in the library during the incident, said police officers threatened to shoot her with a Taser when she asked an officer for his name and his badge number.
For God's sake, what the hell is wrong with these rent-a- cops? So, the kid didn't have his student card with him; big deal. He was leaving. He was doing nothing wrong. He was no threat to anyone. And the reason he wasn't standing up when they told him to was that they had shot him with 50,000 volts of electricity. The whole point of a taser is to make someone lose control of their muscles and collapse onto the ground; if the rent-a- cops didn't know that, they probably shouldn't have their jobs at all, and they certainly should not be allowed to carry a weapon whose purposes and properties they don't even know.

This kid paid to be at UCLA and earned his way there through academic achievement. He had every right to be there, and the rent-a- cops had no right to treat him as they did. And they certainly had no right of any kind to threaten onlookers. These particular rent-a- cops need to be fired, sued, and prosecuted, immediately.

Update: Apparently they were real cops, as is usual on UCal campuses. That's even worse, in my opinion.

God. Another toy for men who desperately need to dominate. Maybe they can run this on "COPS" so all the git-tuff-on-crime junkies can enjoy the spectacle of yet another unarmed, injured person getting a taste of our extra-judicial penal system.

The Dark Wraith SO needs to get a great big cattle prod to level the playing field.

Stop and produce I.D. is going to become more prevalent. and anyone with a uniform and a badge/gun will become power mad.

This used to be a nice country.

We are so lucky!!! This is EXACTLY what we asked for and are now getting! We have allowed this madness to become the norm, nay lovingly and with rapt and enamoured expressions have welcomed this behavior to become the way we are now treated so we can stop the terrorists! Isn't this worth it? Doesn't it make you kind of tingly all over (pardon the little joke) to know that the very guys we used to put in jail for this sort of behavior (cops) are now allowed to run rampant and exercise their will to subjugate you/us for the egregious and heinous crime of being in the library too late? After all, he had a backpack!!! Look what happened when that one guy questioned macaca allen! He had a backpack and had it coming too!!! Where the fuck is Ann and Rush when we need them!? It's the kid's own fault for trying to do research for his higher education instead of blindly wallowing in the edification and enlightenment so generously provided by Faux "News"!!!
What's wrong with you people? Can't you see this is for our own good?
Dark Wraith! You don't need a cattle prod. A little reprogramming will take care of your obvious ailments. Then you too can sit in front of the TV with that peaceful countenance wafting across your serene features as you submerge yourself in the soothing, lilting tones of the likes of hannity and combes, larry king, bill o'reilly, snow-job, etc.

Or maybe we need to come to grips with the notion that we really are living in the beginnings of a true police state and start getting out new Congress to start changing some of this nightmare around before it really is too late!
