John Edwards, Man Slut

by: Dark Wraith

John EdwardsIn an interview with ABC News, former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted that he had an affair with Rielle Hunter, who had been hired by as a videographer for his campaign despite her lack of experience in the field. Little information prior to 2006 is publicly available about her, although a first-person narrative by a character based upon her in a novel by her boyfriend at the time paints her as "an ostensibly jaded, cocaine-addled, sexually voracious" young woman; but Hunter, herself, claims subsequent 'spiritual quests' of an unspecified nature led her away from previous lifestyle choices.

Edwards, a former United States Senator from North Carolina, had previously characterized as "false" the allegations that he had engaged in an extramarital relationship with Hunter.

First reported last year, rumors of Edwards' extramarital affair were sourced to allies at the National Enquirer of his Democratic opponent, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Edwards denied the allegations and his staff removed all references to Hunter from the his campaign Website. More rumors surfaced several weeks ago when the National Enquirer reported that Edwards and Hunter had been seen together at the Beverly Hilton, adding further fuel to stories that Edwards is the father of Rielle Hunter's illegitimate child, speculation that was disputed by Edwards' long-time friend, Andrew Young, who claimed the child was his.

John Edwards' campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination came to an end earlier this year after lackluster showings in early primaries. Prior to stepping away from the campaign trail, he and his wife, Elizabeth, had appeared together at an outdoor press conference to disclose that her breast cancer, which had been in remission since surgery in 2004, had returned in the form of what doctors believed were metastatic cancerous masses in bone and lung tissue.

John and Elizabeth Edwards have three children, Jack, age 7, Emma Claire, age 9, and, Cate, who currently attends Harvard Law School. A fourth child, Wade, was killed in a car accident in 1996.

No official statement has been issued by Elizabeth Edwards concerning her husband's admission of infidelity.

I feel as if I have been kicked in the guts. I don't give a shit about your private life, as long as you don't make it public.
by: blackdog (contact) - 08 Aug '08 - 17:39
Indeed, blackdog.

I had some interest in Edwards as a presidential candidate; but this is too close to a Newt Gingrich type of sleaze. In Gingrich's case, what he was doing in his private life—in particular, what he did to his former wife—was a reflection of a mind that was altogether sick and twisted. That ugly man's public life caused no small amount of damage to this nation.

Sometimes, what a man does to hurt people in his family life really is of no bearing on his public performance or stature.

Sometimes, however, it is.

I cannot say which is the case with John Edwards; all I can do is report the facts.

And I can occasionally do a pretty cool animated GIF of a guy who humps a head case while his wife is battling cancer.

The Dark Wraith is, however, non-judgmental in these matters, of course.

Groan. Johnny (you ass), thanks for a whole bunch of nothing. Sheesh.

Hmmm... (*...Thinking...*)

Maybe I should get into politics. razz It seems there's a lot more action to be had in that area than there is around here.

Aww, John.... ead

Read a bit of website about Rielle Hunter. Geez louize...talk about shallow, dizty, self-absorbed, narcissisitic, bubble-brained New-Agey woo-woo (but without any of the positive qualities)...I thought characters like that were only...well, characters, in movies and books and such...not actual PEOPLE.

My $64 question is WHY?...but from a lot of the comments I've read on FARK and comments I've heard from other guys, there's just *something* about making the beast with two backs with a crazy woman.
For a lot of them the jury is still out on whether it was worth it or not...and this is after the broken windows, threats of bodily harm, damaged vehicles, ruined careers, etc,. confused

Good evening, tali.

The jury has delivered the verdict: leave the crazy ladies alone.

Ain't no butt worth the aggravation.

None.

I don't care if it can do the Limbo on a bedpost, then go out for midnight pizza and come back with a girlfriend for Rounds Two, Three, and Four.

The Dark Wraith is, of course, speaking from a theoretical perspective.

I said this on my blog and at Pam's, that what truly infuriates me is his steadfast refusal to come around on marriage equality for all of us, while cheating on his own wife. The sanctity of marriage indeed.

And yes, what blackdog said. None of us are perfect and normally I wouldn't care except for the extenuating circumstances here.

and, with the russians rolling tanks, and the smoking goddamn gun of the susskind book being validated by american conservative magazine to show that it was not a "failure of intelligence" that caused us to go to war in iraq, it was purposeful and consistent lying by the president, vice president, and all of their minions and hirelings in congress.

got that? hundreds of thousands of iraqis dead. for no good reason. 5000 and counting americans dead. for no good reason. countless thousands maimed physically and mentally, permanently disfigured and scarred. for no good reason.

but wait! john edwards got laid! that's fucking news?

barf.

The late Rev Billy Graham refused to be in a room alone with any woman other than his wife. Therefore he would never be tempted and no one could ever accuse him of infidellity! I think that's extreme. It makes me want to do what one of Willie Nelson's wives did to him. Sew him up in a bedsheet while he's sleeping and proceed to beat the hell out of him with a baseball bat. Maybe that is the opposite extreme. Either way, he's lucky to be alive! This is the kind of crapola you expect from Republicans not Democrats! Did we learn nothing from Bill Clinton?
DW Please tell John Edwards that it is only when it isn't so that you can say it isn't so. When it is so, fess up and deal with it! How can anyone in public life think no one will ever find out?
by: Tenngran (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 11:59
Thank you MB for helping me gain perspective here. Your comments came in while I was venting my personal feelings. I don't think I've ever been cheated on and I am not stupid. I know I'm a lucky one to have this kind of husband (one that wants only me) but if he can do it, why can't others? Of course it is a small thing compared to the state of emergency the world is in but I think it makes every woman look at the man she trusts and think, "Et tu, Brutus?"
by: Tenngran (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 12:08
Good afternoon, Minstrel Boy.

Lies about sex are important to people. Lies to start wars are considerably less so.

A person's own sexuality satisfies; another's titillates.

Wars, on the other hand, cause mere death and extensive misery; but as long as it is not our own, then it should be relegated to the trivial people who are more concerned about the history of the future than the sensations of the present.

You give me a picture of a good-looking, unfaithful man lying through his teeth about a hot, scrawny bimbo who spreads for fun and/or money, and I'll sell newspapers.

You give me a picture of a short, dumb-looking President lying through his teeth about weapons of mass destruction and aluminum tubes and spies and terrorist meetings that never happened and yellowcake purchase inquiries, and I got nothin'.

Give the people what they want, and they'll get what they deserve.

But, of course, the Dark Wraith is just, as usual, being inappropriately cynical

And, by the way, rumors are buzzing about a several naval battle groups steaming toward Iran. These rumors come and go, but this one might be related to recent, bipartisan agreement (pushed by the AIPAC) for a naval blockade of Iran. What's interesting about this variation on the recurrent rumor is that the EU has assets involved.

Does this rumor have any backing in official statements, right now? Not that I can tell; but I wanted to pass it along just in case some folks here are interested in that kind of stuff.

Now, back to All Sex, All the Time.
by: Dark Wraith (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 13:08
Well, yes, lying about sex is SO much worse than lying about reasons to go to war, for control of that mid-eastern oil pipeline. [/sarcasm]
by: Foiled Goil (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 13:27
I feel so sorry for Elizabeth and as much as I supported John, he should be shunned.

What a fucking dummy. ead
by: Debra (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 14:51
tenngran, i saw willie right after that incident. he was scheduled to play harrah's tahoe and showed up with two black eyes and sore ribs.

the wife, did not use a ball bat. she used a broomstick. hurts more, but doesn't risk earning capacity.
by: Minstrel Boy (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 15:35
Bet it hurt hurt like all hell anyway.

It ain't worth it, but then my testosterone levels are on the low side anymore.
by: blackdog (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 16:06
MB That is rich! Of course you are right and for all the right reasons! If you had the time you really ought to write that book!
by: Tenngran (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 16:12
Interesting how there's not much talk about McCain's affair, isn't it?

Oop... forgot: IOKIYAR rolleyes

Elizabeth Edwards, Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 04:40:51 PM PDT:

Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him. [snip]

But now the truth is out, and the repair work that began in 2006 will continue. I ask that the public, who expressed concern about the harm John’s conduct has done to us, think also about the real harm that the present voyeurism does and give me and my family the privacy we need at this time.
by: Foiled Goil (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 16:28
Elizabeth Edwards is a good person. She will die before John, and she will do so in great pain.

John will live on. Perhap at some time long in the future, instead of blubbering about his regrets, he will be still and contemplate genuine remorse.

Regardless of that, one thing is for sure: the Devil really does take care of his own.

The Dark Wraith is just weary of the absurdity of this world.
by: Dark Wraith (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 16:51
You're right, of course. There she is, thinking of her family. There he was, thinking of himself.

Beyond weary of the absurdity, myself, my dear Wraith.
by: Foiled Goil (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 17:46
(And what the Hell is it with all this "God has forgiven me" BS, lately?)
by: Foiled Goil (contact) - 09 Aug '08 - 18:04
It is my experience that He is a loving and forgiving God. So if you have asked for forgiveness, God forgives but you still have to suffer the consequences of your sin. And only God does both...Forgive and Forget!
by: Tenngran (contact) - 10 Aug '08 - 12:04
Interesting how there's not much talk about McCain's affair, isn't it?
Foiled Goil,
Actually, I see a LOT of it...but then, I only read blogs and intarwebz stuff. No TV, so no MSM.
In fact, caught this little tidbit on AMERICAblog...
John Edwards Mentions John McCain's Affair

Thought that was rather clever of him to scrape off some of the mud that's sticking to him and fling it right back...but the MSM is scrubbing (so to speak) any mention of this. rdman
by: tali (contact) - 10 Aug '08 - 12:10
Tenngran, I surely do understand what you are saying. God may forgive and forget, IF one is truly and sincerely contrite. And I also remember that Hell was another Almighty creation.

---

Tali, I caught that Edwards mud fling thing! Ba-da boom! biggrin And you're correct about the MSM "scrubbing" it and worse, claiming that it ruins John's political career chances. Pfft. With all the repuglicans who've had extramarital affairs and still held a political office?

Reagan... Hyde... Newt... Giuliani... Barr... McCain...
by: Foiled Goil (contact) - 10 Aug '08 - 14:05
FG I heard someone say this the other day. "When God closes one door He opens another BUT there will be Hell in the hallway!"
by: Tenngran (contact) - 11 Aug '08 - 12:16
And Hell to pay in the hallway?! wink
