A Couple of Things

by: Minstrel Boy

Wesley Clark has a petition and a campaign up to pressure congress to Dump Rush from Armed Forces Radio. From what I remember troops in the field will listen to the enemy's radio if they play better music. Dump Rush, play the new Bruce Springsteen, or what ever else the troops want to hear.

Also,

Eric Massa calls Rush out. Although because he's running for congress he only takes it as far as saying he'll appear on Rush's show.

The only thing I have to discuss with that fat, cowardly, lying fuck is choice of weapons. I would love to not only let him choose the weapons, but would further say that if it's pistols, he can borrow mine to practice if he doesn't own his own, then pick the hand I use. Same deal with swords. Rapiers are my favorites, but I wouldn't hesitate a lick if he chose sabers, samurai swords or fucking Kabars. Again, he can choose if I'm right or left handed for the duel. Oh, yeah, and Rush, under the code duello which our founders operated from, there will be an agreed referee with a shotgun to shoot down cheaters.

(it really doesn't make a difference, I can shoot and use a sword or knife equally well from either side. It just sounds so fucking cool to let them choose the hand you use.)

Dump Rush, then flush!!!

I caught Wes Clark calling for the * * * * to be removed from Armed Forces Radio earlier on Dan Abrams' BSNBC program -- and the new vote vets ad on that show and on Keith O's Countdown.

VoteVets.org

Maybe Rush Limbaugh hasn't heard, but there's a new sheriff in town - America's troops and veterans, who are not going to sit idle while he and his ilk demean the service of those who oppose the President's failed policy in Iraq.

Today, we're unveiling a new television and radio ad, taking Rush head on, for his contention that we're "phony soldiers."

The ad features Brian McGough, an Iraq war veteran who received the Purple Heart for a traumatic brain injury as a result of shrapnel he took to the head, in Iraq. In the ad, Brian makes it clear: "Rush, the shrapnel I took to my head was real. My traumatic brain injury was real. And, my belief that we are on the wrong course in Iraq is real. Until you have the guts to call me a "phony soldier" to my face, stop telling lies about my service."

Maybe Rush was able to get away with such smears in the past, but those days are over. No one - especially someone who never had the courage to wear the uniform - is going to pass judgment on us and go unchallenged. He, and others, can expect that VoteVets.org will be right there to represent and defend the voice of America's troops and veterans.

May God bless you kindly, Brian McGough.

And the same goes for his apologists, who claim that speech is free, yet ignore the bill for the emergency room treatment of a fat, former dope-addict, Jamaican-little-girl lovin' talk show host who tells a combat vet to his face that he's a phony soldier.

The Dark Wraith looks forward to reading about Rush's problems with going out in public in the years to come.

Dang it! It gets worse:

As for the soldier in the commercial, Brian McGough served in the same unit I did, though I didn’t know him personally at the time. Brian was a field artillery NCO (noncommissioned officer) attached to the Rakkasans, the 3rd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. He served in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq before he was injured. I knew of him because he was friends with one of my own soldiers in Afghanistan. At the time, Brian was a Forward Observer (a guy who goes with the infantry to call in air strikes, artillery, and mortars).

In Iraq, Brian served in the same capacity, but at a higher level. He was a team chief in northern Iraq, and he served there throughout that long, but relatively peaceful, summer of 2003. That all changed though, on October 17 when Brian was wounded. The incident was captured in vivid, heartbreaking detail by another soldier, and

Brian has it posted on his own blog, Inside My Broken Skull. It’s one of the most chilling pieces of combat writing I’ve ever read.

For those who know him, Brian is a great guy—thoughtful and articulate. And, despite the issues he’s had in dealing with his injury, he’s become politically active. Last week he met personally with members of Senator Webb’s staff in Washington to go over proposed legislation that concerns veterans.

Now, Rush Limbaugh came out today and addressed the VoteVets ad on his live radio show. He also tried to minimize Brian’s efforts to change Iraq policy.

Rush said today that Brian McGough’s decision to work on this ad was a "blatant use of a combat veteran" by VoteVets.org. Rush’s brain then must have fallen out of his head, because he then tried to paint Brian as a clueless, brainwashed, tool of the Left by comparing him to a suicide bomber:
"This is such a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said and then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media and a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into. This man will always be a hero to this country with everyone. Whoever pumped him full of these lies about what I said and embarrassed him with this ad has betrayed him, they aren't hurting me they are betraying this soldier," Limbaugh said.
UPDATE: As I was preparing to post this, Brian emailed me his response to Rush’s statement made on the radio today. Here it is in its entirety:

i did a lot of really shitty things while i was still drinking and getting stoned. really shitty. thing is, in the process of recovery i quit blaming that behavior on the substances. they might have made it a little easier but i mainly did shitty things because i was a miserable shitty bastard. i can still be a pretty shitty asshole. i keep working on changing it. every motherfucking day.

The first step is admitting there is a problem. They say.

Rush thinks everyone else has a problem, not him. I guess.

i did a lot of really shitty things...

That's one ditty I guarantee I can play, note for note. Like you, I continue working on the bastard part; Assholishness...I don't necessarily consider a vice. I revel in it!
